Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher September 6, 2010 C. Parker (usa) Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher Works well, some cleaning necessary during use with wetter materials, but I am happy with my Eco-Shredder Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher as it does what I expected it to do.
Pre-dry materials before using September 6, 2010 Phillip I. Good (Huntington Beach, CA United States) This is the least-expensive shredder that will cut bananna leaves and artichoke stems without breaking down.
Assembly can be tricky: be sure to position blades correctly before replacing cover.
Newly-cut material will clog the machine and require dis-assembly and reassembly. Dry out all garden trimmings first. String materials that may wrap around each other must be fed in slowly, else the machine will jam.
I still haven't figured out how to capture all the resultant clippings without some blowing away.
Have yet to try on anything harder than an artichoke stalk.
This is a good shredder for small yards September 3, 2010 Lidia LoPinto (New York) I purchased the Eco-Shredder. I think this is a good shredder for the smaller yard.
I was able to process a bail of material in a reasonable amount of time and use the shredded leaves and sticks as a mulch and fertilizer for my plants. I separated the larger than 1 inch sticks out. For very thick sticks, even from my Poke plant, it managed to shred it partially, but it didn't feed through because it is very fibrous and not actually brittle. The plant has purple juicy seeds so don't feed that in. However, for sticks like tough rose stems, it did a good job. It works well on dry leaves and pine needles, even those with small stems on them.
It took some experimenting to realize that fresh wet materials or anything with dirt still on it should not be fed into the machine or it will clog up. So, I put my trimmings out in the sun and wait until the dry a bit. Otherwise, if the material is wet, I make sure it is fed more slowly and watch the exit for clogging.
The shredded materials dries into a nice looking mulch. But I apply it still damp to my plants. I did notice that my roses and Crape Myrtles were flowering more when I used this eco mulch instead of store bought mulches. And I am not wasting my money throwing away plant material that I spent money growing.
I don't use a bag, rather a large tray that I sit it on, and then I simply throw the resulting mulch in areas of my garden.
Great tool.
mulching August 30, 2010 Laura Lee Wiland (Friendswood, Texas United States) We have been using the shredder in our garden and it works fine for the smaller stuff. We love it.
My wife loves it. August 27, 2010 Brian So far, we have only had it for two weeks, my wife loves it. She did manage to jam it once with wet material. It was a little tricky for her to take apart and unclog, but it was manageable. Terrible instructions for assembly and use. Does the job we were looking for, shredding small branches just fine. Quiet and stable when running. You just need to find a bucket or strong bag to accept the shredded material from the shedder. Worth the $200!!!
