Get the right power tools for your
household operations
Power tools are basically those
that are powered by electric motors or compressed air motors
or gasoline engines. For household purposes we generally use
portable power tools that are handy and easy to operate. With
the help of these user-friendly tools homeowners can manage
any sink replacement or kitchen cabinet installation without
hassles. You can find any local hardware store or garden store
loaded with a good range of power tools. But before buying
one, you should have a clear understanding of types of tools
and their usage. Each tool is meant for a particular job and
you have to go through the details of their operation so that
you can choose right power tools for the right
purpose.
Electric power tools available in
the market can be broadly classified as follows-
" Drills - These are available
with or without cords. It's wise to pick up a cordless one if
your wallet permits so. With a cordless drill you can easily
take up any fix-it project even at the narrowest corners of
your house. " Blowers and Vacuums - These power tools
are meant for multipurpose use. You can dry your things and
clean your stuff as well. " Saws - These are chiefly
wood cutters. " Sanders - Sanders are used for any
type of woodwork or hardwood floor refinishing. They do vary
also according to the kind of finish you want.
" Chippers & Shredders - These gardening power
tools are used in leaf shredding, chipping and mulching.
" Grinders - These are for shaping, grinding or
sharpening materials. " Scrapers - Generally these
are used for removing any sticky substance from any hard
base. " Trimmers - Hedge and string trimmers are power
tools that are used to trim your lawns and removing
weeds. " Polishers and Buffers - These tools
help in polishing and smoothening articles.
But power tools are of no use
without the right accessories. You need to have the right
blade along with the right saw to get the cut you want. There
are three kinds of blades - Rip, Crosscut and Combination. Rip
blades have deep teeth that would help removing the materials
as they cut. You can have a fast cut with these blades but not
a clean one. In crosscut blades, teeth appear on both sides.
When a crosscut blade glides across a material, it alternates
sides and so it can deliver very nice a cut. Combination
blades are something between rip blades and crosscut blades.
With fewer teeth you can have a rugged cut and with many teeth
you can have a smooth cut.
While using power tools you need to
take some protective measures. You should always wear safety
goggles and work gloves. Do use earplugs if the equipments are
noisy. Be very careful when you are handling sharp blades and
saws. After each use properly clean the tools and store them
out of reach of children. Do not forget to unplug your
equipments when you are not using them. Before venturing into
any job, go through the power tools manufacturer guideline
manual in detail.
